Overall Activity
KALEIDOSCOPEUROPE PROJECT
“KALEIDOSCOPEUROPE” Project is led and coordinated by Italy through the
Italian Institute of Culture in Ankara. The Project Partners are the
Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul, Middle East Technical University (METU) and State Theatre, Opera and Ballet Employees Foundation (TOBAV) plus a high number of important activity partners from Turkey and Europe.
The contract of the KALEIDOSCOPEUROPE Project was signed by Central Finance and Contracts Unit on 17 February 2009 and was signed by Delegation of The European Union to Turkey and Italian Institute of Culture - Ankara on 2 March 2009. Implementation phase of the project has started on 3 March 2009 one day after the signing date.
The heart of the project is to ensure the cooperation of European and Turkish cultural actors and operators in order to build a lasting and sustainable dialogue and partnership, able to improve mutual knowledge and understanding among peoples.
The Project, funded by the European Union within the framework of EU-TURKEY Civil Society Dialogue “Cultural Bridges” Programme, had a global budget of €1.665.052, started on March 3rd, 2009 and is completed by the end of 2010 (22 months) .
“Colours of Creativity Bridging Cultures” is the leitmotiv of the project. In fact, the project, as a kaleidoscope, presents different aspects of the European and Turkish cultures in a colourful manner. In addition, as it happens in a kaleidoscope, it invites people to change their point of views by pointing out the richness of cultural similarities.
Culture is an essential dimension of Turkey’s accession to the European Union. There is a gap in the respective perceptions, on both sides that needs to be addressed, and bridged, through a process where similarities are brought forward, and differences are to be considered not as an impediment, but as enrichment for actors involved in the process.
